The Super 7 Connoisseur is a Vari-speed, belt driven, backgeared, screwcutting, bench mounting, centre lathe - 89mm (3.1/2") centre height x 475mm (18.3/4") or 780mm (30.34") between centres, with the Headstock spindle bored 26mm to clear 25.4mm (1") and incorporating a safe reversing feature. The spindle nose is precision bored and ground 4MT. Imperial model with 10 TPI cross slide and top slide feedscrews and nuts, inch graduations on the tailstock barrel and leadscrew hand wheel; or Metric model with 2mm pitch cross slide and top slide feedscrews and nuts, metric graduations on the tailstock barrel. The bed is cast in grade 240 iron with Induction Hardnened Bedways fitted as standard on standard length beds only.
The lathe is fitted with a quick change screwcutting gearbox, which in conjunction with the 8TPI leadscrew gives 24 imperial/inch threads and 24 feeds; a thread dial indicatoris fitted to the apron . For metric, BA, odd threads and pitches, the optional 1481/1 metric conversion set will be required.
The machine is fitted with a countershaft clutch unit, A plain taper front headstock bearing supports the spindle in radial loading, while a pair of angular contact ball races at the rear provide support for axial loads. The spindle nose is threaded M42.5 x 2mm pitch. An indexing plunger can be engaged with the 60T bullwheel to provide simple indexing of the spindle, up to 120 divisions. Variable speed spindles from 26 - 3000 rpm are achieved in 3 distinct speed ranges, by a two speed drive from countershaft to headstock spindle and a backgear reduction. Both primary and secondary drives are fitted with Poly-V belts. All drive guards are secured with 1/4 turn latches opened by a special square drive key.
The carriage features power cross feed (facing), a tee slotted cross slide and the top slide swivels 360 degrees. Both cross slide and top slide feedscrews are fitted with adjustable micrometer dials. The cross slide feedscrew is fitted with a needle thrust bearing to increase sensitivity.
The tailstock is a self-ejecting type, and the barrel feedscrew has a three start thread to give rapid movement. The tailstock handwheel is fitted with an adjustable friction dial, having 60 divisions, reading 0.005" per division. A metric version is not available, but the equivalent per division is 0.127mm. The barrel is precision bored 2MT. The tailstock body can be set over on its base in either direction, to turn long, shallow tapers.
The drive is motorized by a 0.75kW (1hp), 230 volt, three phase, 50/60Hz, resilient mounted, industrial rated motor. A separate enclosure houses the electrical installation which includes a lockable isolator, start and stop buttons, forward/reverse and run/jog selector switches, and a mushroom head emergency stop button with turn-to release.
The ekectronically controlled variable speed inverter control feature no-volt release and thermal overload protection and only requires 230 volt, single phase, 50/60Hz power supply, with fuse protection of 10 amps from the customers supply. A 10 turn potentiometer gives a sensitive speed control and is accompanied by an electronic tachometer with digital display. Power inilet is via a CEE 17 plug, with 3 metres H07 insulated cable, for 230 volt, single phase 50/60Hz AC supply.
PLEASE NOTE: The power supply shoudl be dewrived from a live and neutral feed with a separate earth. In some north
